Don’t Tell Me I Can’t (Spoken Word Video)

Screen Shot 2015-08-07 at 8.33.38 PMBefore I get into today’s post, I want to say a HUGE thank you to you all. I have been overwhelmed by all the amazing responses to my post last week (You can read that here). Being raw, vulnerable, and sharing the struggles I have gone through in such an honest way was a scary move for me, but I am so glad I did it. God continues to amaze me with how He uses our weaknesses and our struggles for amazing things. The stories you all shared with me blessed me like you will never know. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Today, I have something a little different to share with you. Over the past couple months I have been taking a step back from working and just spending time reflecting and listening to where The Lord is leading me to go.

One afternoon a few days into my break while Justin and I were hanging around the house, I got an undeniable need to write. This wasn’t a time where I felt I had to for work, or it would be nice to, I NEEDED to write. It was all I could think about and so I gave in. I went back in my bedroom with a notebook, my Bible and a stirring heart and began to write a poem.

I haven’t written a poem for the sake of writing a poem in a very long time and it refueled a passion in me. I used to write poems, journals, and all kinds of things throughout high school but not so much in recent years.

It felt amazing.

From there, I began writing a motivational spoken word piece called ‘Don’t Tell Me I Can’t’. It is something I feel very passionate about: believing in the seemingly impossible and going for our dreams even when others say we can’t.

I hope this inspires and speaks to you the way it did to me. Your potential is infinite and NOTHING is impossible with God, absolutely nothing.

We are not meant to live our lives in suffocating boxes. Click here to tweet that.

The ones that realize that and go for it are the ones who change history.

All the words to the spoken word are below so you can read it, share it and take it to heart.

Enjoy the video!

P.S If this video resonates with you and makes an impact in your life, please share it with someone who could use this message.

“Throughout history people have done what many called impossible.

They were labeled, called crazy, told their ideas would never work..

Some shunned from society.. Some even thrown in prison.

Can you and imagine if they quit and..

Nothing ever changed?

This message is for the history makers, the world changers, the visionaries.

Who believe in change, of any aspect of the human race..

I have been told that what I believe, what I dream is impossible.

It’s only for the lucky few.

But I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and I know that you can too..

So when I say I’m gonna do it..Don’t tell me I can’t.

Amelia Earhart was the first women to fly across the Atlantic, while the world watched frantic..

You see, she did what only a man had done, nobody could get in the way of her dream..

No one.

So when I say I’m going to do it, don’t tell me I can’t.

Walt Disney was a man with a dream, but make no mistake it didn’t come easy…

He was fired from a newspaper because they said he lacked imagination, that he had no good ideas, and to pursue a new vocation…

Aren’t you glad he didn’t listen?

So when I say I’m going to do it, don’t tell me I can’t…

Your dreams matter, don’t let them be shattered..

Like these trailblazers of history, all who are prized, have at one point in their lives been criticized..

So when you say you’re going to do it, don’t let them tell you YOU can’t.

Don’t smother the flame that has the power to bring change, because without it we all stay the same..

You see all it takes is a match to start a flame and that flame to set the world ablaze.

So when I say I’m going to do it.. Don’t tell me I can’t..

Neil Armstrong was a man with a boldness to go where no man had ever gone.

He was the first man to walk on the moon in 1969, he didn’t let fear or limitation keep him confined. He risked his life and showed us all, that nothing is impossible..

So when I say I’m going to do it.. Don’t tell me I can’t..

There are thousands of stories of people who believed in the power of their dreams and overcame adversity. Who’s to say you can’t be one?

Imagine a world where any of these people gave up, when they were told they weren’t enough..

Albert Einstein didn’t speak until he was 4 years old, but went on to find some of the the greatest advances of his time…

Martin Luther King Jr. led a movement of freedom.. Slaves were set free and hearts turned toward the Kingdom..

Rosa Parks stood up for her rights, because being seen as a human was worth that fight..

Thomas Edison was an innovator and an inventor of what he couldn’t see, but because of him we all see, that everything’s a possibility, if we just believe..

So when I say I’m going to do it.. Don’t tell me I can’t..”
