After my long and very deep blog post last week, I decided to do a more lighthearted and fun blog this week about one of my favorite topics, reading!
Before I get into some of my favorite books, I want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who read my blog last week, shared it with your friends and those of you who commented and wrote me afterwards. I was overwhelmed by the amazing response. It was incredible and I can’t thank you enough.
Today I want to share with you 10 inspiring books to read that changed my life in one way or another. Those of you who know me or have followed me for any amount of time probably know that I love to read.
Reading is one of the most powerful ways to change your life. It makes you smarter. Helps you grow in wisdom in learning from other people’s stories and also from well written fiction with a lesson. Most all of my favorite books have directly caused me to grow in some way or another. It’s helped me grow in life, spiritually, as a writer and even help shape who I am and what I believe.
I say this often, but I truly believe that there is incredible power in sharing our stories. It has been such a blessing learning life lessons from people who have gone through something. And a great way to do that is through reading their books.
Here are 10 books to read that have directly impacted my life and that I believe can impact and change yours as well.
1. The Bible.
This first one is a no brainer for me. This is the book that has literally changed my life. Every bit of growth I have made, every blessing in my life and every bit of wisdom I have gained has come from consuming this book cover to cover on a daily basis. I read this every single day, memorize it and meditate on it. The promises in this book, the wisdom and the fact that is the living Word of God is enough to make this the top book on my list for ever and always. When I am not in the Word daily, I feel it. This book brings clarity, direction and all good things you could ever dream of or imagine. You can get it here.
Unafraid is Susie Davis’ story of God’s redemption in her stronghold of fear. When she was a child she witnessed one of her classmates shoot her teacher right in front of her and the rest of the class. It was one of the first school shootings in our nation and it shook her to her core. She spent many years terrified, dealing with anxiety, not able to be alone, not able to rest or trust the Lord and her story of redemption and healing was enough to bring me to tears, because although I didn’t experience a school shooting, I did have so many similarities to her. This book radically changed my perspective on my life. I have dealt with fear and anxiety over the years and the way that she shares her testimony rocked my world. I began to see my life in a totally different way and this book was a stepping stone in breaking off a season of bondage to fear in my life. If anxiety, fear or worry is a theme in your life at all (and it is for all of us) you have to get this book, you will not regret it. You can get it here.
Last year I took a month off to get clarity and figure out my next steps. I wrote a post all about it here. During that time, I read Purpose Driven Life every single day. I reread pieces of it and it brought a whole new level of understanding to me that I had not had before. It answers the big questions about life. Why are we here? What is my purpose? What’s the meaning of life? What really matters in life? It was a huge instrument in pulling me out of a funk and getting my eyes on what mattered. It is definitely a book to read. You can get it here.
This book brings insight on how to interact with other people and in relationships effectively. We all have different ways that we feel loved and being able to love someone the way they need to be loved, starts with knowing what their love language is. Some feel incredibly loved when given gifts and others couldn’t care less. The 5 love languages are quality time, gifts, words of affirmation, physical touch and acts of service. It’s amazing what changes in your life when you know the way you feel loved and begin to understand the way other people in your life receive love. This book brings such healing and breakthrough in relationships. You can get it here.
This book is a fictional story written completely in metaphor to illustrate trust and reliance on God. It is the most beautiful and powerful story I have read. The lessons that you learn along with the character throughout the book will undeniably change your life and make you think differently. It brings so much freedom and breakthrough. You can get it here.
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers is one of my absolute favorite fiction books. This is another incredible story with a long string of life lessons. When I finished reading this book, I was inspired, touched by God and saw things in such a different light. You can get it here.

It is now becoming mainstream knowledge that your thoughts and words create your life. Norman Vincent Peale wrote this book decades ago with some of the most practical advice on how to change your thinking so that you can change your life. It is a powerful book with case studies and in depth stories of people who have used these practices to completely transform their lives for the better. You will finish this book a happier person than when you started. You can get it here.
Karen Kingsbury is an author I recently found out about just a couple of months ago. I have already read several of her books and she is by far my favorite author. Her fiction books are packed full of lessons, advice and perspectives on the world that more people need to hear. Not to mention she is a brilliant writer and I literally could not put her books down. She has a huge library of books under her belt, so the good news is when you get hooked (and you will), there’s plenty of reading to do! You can get the first book in the series here.
I hope you enjoy reading some of these books. These are books to read for transformation in your life and I can testify to that, because I have personally read and took to heart each and every one of these books.
